The investiture of the gods
【the investiture of the gods】is the cover illustration created for the literature book < the investiture of the gods 3600 years> written by young writer / scholar teacher Tianfei Li.
Centering on such a Chinese fairy tale with a long history and a grand theme, it is suitable to draw with Chinese painting style , but it is not limited to the traditional single form of expression.
Therefore, the work adopts the painting technique of combining line drawing with ink and wash dyeing, and Outlines the clouds with ink painting. Meanwhile , the iconic characters, scenery, artifacts and immortal animals ..etc . drawn in the form of "plain painting" with the opposite color of Yin and Yang .
Besides black and white, the vermillion that has design feeling and gold cleverly union with the whole painting , present a kind of contemporary visual impulse that combines with tradition.
Symmetrical in the middle and rounded in the outside, the composition makes the picture solemn, but it is not a plane representation. Instead, abstract clouds of swirling smoke and water mist emerge from the stream of Xumui Mountain in the distant view and turn into clouds. The forms of whirlpool makes as if the world and fairyland crisscross ,brings intense depth perception feeling . As far as the eyesight reaches , it seems that we are about to travel through time and space and enter the distant and illusory world of myth.
Sanguine melody
This richly detailed work, entitled "Sanguine Melody", is among artist Zhao Qing’s finest. It showcases beautiful layering and was completed using a monochromatic drawing technique. “Sanguine Melody” is the artist’s homage to Sichuan hotpot, one of the most representative forms of Chinese cuisine.
The picture’s bold and vibrant coloration mimics the piquant impact of hot pot on the taste buds, which is full of complexity and depth.
The hotpot fairy in the upper right corner of the painting is a radial and visually centering composition. The flaming red hair melds with flowing heat waves, and the well-known hotpot ingredients seem to be tumbling in the boiling red soup.
In addition to the ingredients, the various forms of elves attract the viewer’s eye. Can you guess who they are? Their names showcase the vivid and humorous Chengdu dialect! Bajiji (soft and cute), Suobianbian (lazy and sneaky), Paerduo (henpecked), and Jingjiaohuan(screaming).
We seem to follow these dialect elves in the painting together, roaming in the sweltering air of Chengdu!
The god of fortune Fan. Li & Zi. Gong
Today, I fear that the traditions, customs, and cultural practices that disseminate knowledge of these awe-inspiring spirits is dying out. It is my fervent desire to faithfully depict the ancient gods and mythic figures in a contemporary aesthetic style to further ensure the immortality of these ancient deities. I hope to fill viewers of my art with spiritual awareness and insight:
